We need face gear

Half of the world is under a lockdown right now.

I have been thinking about the long term behavioural changes to our society post-COVID, and I am starting to feel convinced that face gears will become mainstream.

We have now established, through multiple iterations, that masks are essential, irrespective of whether you are ill or not. It’s funny because various governments and the WHO kept on advising otherwise for the larger majority.

There is anecdotal evidence that masks solve for social distancing and decrease the probability of transmission of infectious diseases, but I feel in the long term, they are suboptimal. They do not protect all critical points like the eyes. Moreover, only a few of them have the ability to be full proof.

Face gears that cover the eyes, nose and mouth can become key drivers of life continuity in post-COVID world. Are they metal helmets or clothing accessories? I am not sure. But I do see a lot of technology and fashion companies innovating here and making this mainstream.

So much so, it will be socially irresponsible to not wear a face gear.

Being a mixed reality geek, I had always imagined that an AR glass will replace smartphones. However, the future for now seems like a lightweight and tech enabled face gear that protects you from infectious diseases while pairing up with other utility needs.
