Intuition: the upside of having more experiences

Most non-linear things in life require strong intuition. But here is the contradiction - to develop a strong intuition, you need to have ‘more’ experiences, and not just the right ones.

One of my favourite poems of all time is ‘The Soul’s Prayer’ by Sarojini Naidu. A curious soul who wants to fast track her way to life’s deepest secrets - eventually learns that it requires deep experiences of extreme joys and pains.

I can’t stress enough how much your own experiences and the experiences of people who you stay close to, goes a long way in making you learn way more than anything else ever would.

And if you are obsessively curious, you would always learn from every experience and person - good or bad. In any case, you can never really know if an experience will be good or bad. So, you will look forward to having more experiences.

It is strange and challenging, because our society stresses a lot on glorifying having ‘good’ experiences all the time. We do not celebrate ‘bad’ experiences - rather we stay away from anything that our linear mind thinks can lead to a ‘bad’ experience: doing a startup, speaking out that bold idea in a room full of ‘experts’, or trusting your gut when it’s against the common norm.

An average individual would spend enormous time in thinking about choosing the right experience versus experiencing more things.

However, with every experience, you will be able to imagine things that very less people can. You will start trusting your intuition more and more with each passing day. Uncertainty will never frighten you. It will feel like a superpower.

All you have to do is never stop looking forward to an experience, learning every single day from it, and giving it your best shot.
Afterall, you can not suddenly think outside the box if you have lived inside one all your life. It’s a long game.
